Good afternoon, dear readers, this is the blog of our Institute for Genetic Research. Here we talk about such an interesting phenomenon as telomeres and telomerase.

Our DNA is stored in chromosomes – special X-shaped structures located in the cell nucleus. Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes. They consist of the same sequence of nitrogenous bases, which is repeated about 3,000 times.

The main function of telomeres is to protect the ends of chromosomes from adhesion and destruction.
For clarity, a chromosome can be compared to a shoelace, where telomeres would be eglets – plastic tips that protect the strands from unraveling and tangling.

You will find a lot of interesting and informative information in our articles.
